Wildstorm Winter Special (Various)
Decided to venture into the Wildstorm Universe once again.  This special, much like an Annual, has several stories in it, but I want to direct your attention to the Apollo/Midnighter story “Two Dangerous Ideas”.  For those that don’t know anything about Apollo/Midnighter, they were created by Warren Ellis as intentional analogues to Superman and Batman, only in the Wildstorm universe they are canonically gay and in a committed relationship/marriage.  The two are also decidedly more violent and are more than willing to kill their enemies, but at the end of the day they go home to each other and…it’s pretty sweet.
In this particular story, Apollo and Midnighter are presented with an alternate universe version of themselves, Pluto and Daylighter, and tasked to help them kill an idea that is killing people left and right, but there is more than one dangerous idea to which Apollo and Midnighter are introduced.  On the surface, there seems to be one fundamental difference between these doppelgangers, but it’s not exactly what Midnighter initially thinks.
Apollo, Midnighter, and the Authority may not be everybody’s cup of tea, but I think they are important to get to know because a) they are being included in the larger DCnU in the fall, b) they are canonically gay MALE superheroes that are in a relationship, which is rare, and c) Paul Cornell will be writing them and I’m actually looking forward to that.
This book may possibly be found in your LCBS, though I don’t know how available it is.  I found mine in a 50 cent bin once so maybe you’ll get lucky.
